The Taper

There is nothing better to me than getting to the taper. It means that the long 30+km runs are behind me, and the race is just weeks away.

Training for a marathon is exhausting. It’s a long journey, with week after week of four or five runs and Sundays…too many long Sunday runs.

So when the taper comes, I welcome it with open arms. From here it’s just three more weeks of training and only two Sunday runs. One is a mere 23km, the last one is just 16km.

The goal from here is to slowly back off and rest the legs so they’ll be fresh for the race. I’m excited to enter this last phase of training, and even more excited that race day is just 21 days away.
